Charlie Haden is probably best known for his collaboration with Ornette Coleman in the late 1950s, helping to pioneer the emerging 'free jazz' music. He also went on to form the Liberation Music Orchestra, which continued to explore the boundaries of 'free jazz' in an orchestral setting. Prolific as both a bandleader and a sideman, Charlie Haden has become one of the essential bassists of his generation. |
