Effective as a sideman and as a group leader, McCoy Tyner is known for his strong left hand attack, as well as his unique right-hand soloing style. While working with the John Coltrane Quartet, he developed a distinctively driven style of piano playing that was very complementary to the modal music being played by Coltrane.
